What a great question to start Kat's "Find Your Eye: Starting the Journey" course, and for starting a photojournal blog. I don't know that I've ever stopped and asked myself this question, but once I did I've discovered there isn't just one answer; as I tend to think in terms of lists, here come the bullets ...
- To capture the moment - with my memory I can use all the help I can get
- To be in the moment - the camera makes me think about that moment, the who, what, where, why, and how, the mood, colors, textures, emotions ... instead of all of the wayward thoughts, worries, and distractions that keep me from getting the most out of NOW.
- To make it easier to engage with people at gatherings - I'm not very comfortable in groups and the camera both gives me something to hide behind and makes it easier to approach people
- To change my perspective - the camera makes me look at things in different ways and see things I would otherwise have missed
- To have fun - the fun and joy that comes from taking the picture, and from seeing what I have created
- To create - thinking about the artistry and creativity of photography is a new concept for me and one that is enhancing all of the other reasons I love the camera.
- To Find My Eye - Photography is a journey of discovery. I've already discovered that what captivates me in others' photos aren't the same things that excite me in my own photography. Thanks, Kat for your inspiration and the opportunity to learn more about my photography, and myself. I can hardly wait to see what is around the corner.
